Grading Policy

GRADING POLICY:

We value our partnership with our families! Each Monday, we ask that you sign your child's grade sheet in the Behavior folder to let us know you have reviewed their weekly progress in PowerSchool. Staying connected to your child's learning is one of the best ways to support their success, and we appreciate your partnership!

Assignments, tests, projects, classroom activities, and other instructional activities shall be designed so that the student's performance indicates the level of mastery of the designated  objectives.

The student's mastery level shall be a major factor in determining the grade for a subject or course.

PK-1st:

  • In recording grades for prekindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade students on the student report card, the symbols "E" indicating excellent progress, "S" for satisfactory progress, and "N" for needs improvement shall be used.

2nd-5th:

  • For all subjects taught in elementary grades 2-5/6, the teachers shall use numerical grades (see below) to report progress to parents and students.

Passing (A: 90-100 , B: 80-89, C: 70-79)

Below 70

 Failing

Student Retention/Promotion:

  • Grade 1 students shall be considered for retention if mastery of grade-level objectives is not reflected by assessments, especially in reading language arts and mathematics.

  • In grades 2-8, promotion to the next grade level shall be based on an overall average of 70 on a scale of 100 based on course-level, grade-level standards for all subject areas, and a grade of 70 or above in three of the following areas: reading language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
